From June through August 2026, Sasha Kurmaz (*1986) from Ukraine will be staying at the Fabrik. The interdisciplinary artist lives in Kyiv and has been exhibiting internationally for several years. He has also presented his work on various occasions in Switzerland and received the prestigious Grand Prix at the 2024 Biennale Images at the Musée Jenisch in Vevey

His artistic practice encompasses a wide range of media and approaches, including photography, installation, video, artist book production, various forms of collaborative and participatory practice, performative interaction, and interventions in public space. His work focuses on social and political issues and global challenges that Ukrainian society has faced in recent years. In particular, Sasha Kurmaz explores urban space, society, its development and transformations, collective and personal traumas, the impact of war on personal and group identities, and the dynamics of relationships between the individual and structures of power.
During his residency at the Fabrik, he plans to focus on developing his long-term project, which examines the effects of war on social life.
